What you will learn:
Research Findings: Fundamentals of Fire Safety in Tall Buildings:
- Study on the Unity Tower (102 m height): no basis for system design, stack effect, concentrated and multi-point air supply,
- mistakes you avoid using CFD Simulations and analytical calculations,
- what a simulation report should look like.
High-rise PDS Case Study: Design, Challenges and Operation
- When it has to be applied,
- Frequent problems shown during design stage and how to solve them,
- Case Study: how modern technologies improve safety on the example of tall building Unity Tower (102 m.).

About the faculty:
Radek Sikorski
International Business Development Manager,
Smay Ventilation Systems
Business Development Manager with a background in the design of ventilation and smoke control systems. Responsible for supporting consultants in the development of fire protection system designs. He has been involved in the design of pressurization systems in many countries in Europe, including the UK.
Graduate of the AGH University of Science and Technology in Cracow, where he studied Energy Engineering and Environmental Engineering, specializing in Industrial Ventilation and Air Conditioning, and of the Warsaw University of Technology, where he studied Smoke Extraction Systems: Fire Ventilation. Currently studying International Trade at the SGH Warsaw School of Economics. Member of SiTP and PZIiTS. From 2021, he gave several speeches about fire protection and smoke extraction at events such as the International Tall Building Fire Safety Conference and the Fire Safety Event.
Izabela Tekielak-Skałka, PhD
Head of research and CFD analysis department,
SMAY Ventilation Systems
She has been researching various type of fire ventilation systems for 13 years. She has the greatest experience in work related to fire protection of staircases. In 2020, she received her PhD at the Warsaw University of Technology. Her doctoral dissertation focusing on study of pressure drop in staircases. The results of these studies can be used to design of pressure differential systems in high-rise buildings. In 2022, she was a presenter at an event of the SFPE organization.

SMAY Ventilation Systems - who are we?
How much knowledge will you have built-up when you’ve been working on something for 12 years? We have already completed hundreds of PDS projects in high-rise buildings, including the tallest building in the European Union – Varso Tower.
In addition, we have a unique mix of expertise because we work in more than 34 countries, taking into account more and less restrictive regulations, with differing temperatures and weather conditions of location. It gives us a unique mix of experiences.
We know we can achieve our mission, “Ventilation of tomorrow. Today”, by sharing experiences with international HVAC professionals, research institutes and technical universities.
Our evidence-based cooperation resulted in the development of the SafetyWay pressure differential system, which, equipped with new technologies, solves the most common problems with the protection of escape routes in cases of fire. We are widening our expertise by taking part in the REHVA initiative as a member, organise events, trainings, demonstrations and equipment shows.
