BIM System or a Modern Design Technology now in SMAY

The idea behind Building Information Modeling (BIM) is to create an integrated design tool that makes it possible to access all project information at every step — from the concept creation to commissioning and normal use of a building.

BIM models ensure coherent integration of data of all participants through a new approach to the design process, preparation of documents, investment execution and building management.

Design engineering based on a simple drawing with non-parametrized elements is gradually being replaced with so-called object-oriented design engineering that makes it possible to assign unlimited information to each element. All data in the BIM system, no matter who and how many times changes it, remains coherent and fully accessible. As a result, all project teams get a fully integrated 3D model. This model makes it possible to work faster and more efficiently, at the same time increasing the ability to make quicker decisions.

BIM models — we share our product libraries

SMAY, as a company engaged in every stage of the project and investment execution in both Poland and Europe, wants to meet customer expectations and thus introduces innovative parametrized objects, i.e. BIM models, of the products in our current offer. Our BIM models include technical data from datasheets, and the geometry is mapped perfectly — the libraries are ready to use in any type of project, from pure concepts to complex multidiscipline projects of the highest LoD (Level of Development) and LoI (Level of Information). Apart from rich libraries of product families containing a lot of information, we also share simplified models of all types of accessories and devices.

All BIM models (from Autodesk® Revit® 2017) will be available in the .rfa format on our website, in the Support → Designer Zone tab. We encourage both designers of sanitary systems and architects to download our product families.

Designers can already use libraries of dampers, fire dampers, fire ventilation dampers, constant and variable flow regulators. We are subsequently developing libraries of elements for the Safety Way pressure differential system, SDS single-section smoke extraction duct system, acoustic silencers, intake vents, ventilation grilles and diffusers.

BIM system for designers and architects

For architects, we offer complete product libraries of our SCD smoke dampers. All the available versions make it easier to create project documentation and make it possible to visualise objects with all its components. If you need assistance in selecting smoke dampers, contact our Design Department.

The BIM system or how we introduce a higher standard in design engineering and get ahead of competition

As a leader of innovation, we are introducing a new standard on the market. Our products’ BIM models include a lot of data, at the same time becoming a virtual datasheet, from which every participant of the design process will be able to extract particular information.

All available types of devices, categorized by size and material, are at the mechanical industry designers’ disposal. The selection of specific components, e.g. actuators for fire dampers, is possible due to an algorithm created by the engineers in charge of developing our models. Every time a user makes an incorrect selection, there is a return message in the parameter to inform about the error, or a visual warning — an exclamation mark displayed in a given view.

Such dependencies make it possible to reach a high level of the selection correctness, remove design errors and generate detailed electrical data needed to prepare projects for the electric engineering industry. The data for specific types of accessories and devices is downloaded from the overview tables that are attached to each Revit® family.

Product family features

Our product managers and designers, who work with Revit® every day, were involved in the creation of the libraries. This cooperation resulted in creating models featuring all relevant information. At the same time they are adjusted to the designers’ nature of work. Users can independently edit visibility in 2D or 3D views of such elements as the buffer zone, service area, logo, or symbol — everything is available in the element properties. The product families may also vary depending on the assigned level of details.

The preparation of a complete and useful project becomes easier through full use of the family features. It is e.g. possible to set dimensions needed to make an opening for a fire damper, check the correctness of a selected regulator against volumetric flow rate or check information on pressure drop depending on the size and flow.

BIM models were prepared specifically for sanitary and fire system designers. Every product family has necessary duct connections, which make it possible to connect them to the system, make hydraulic calculations and prepare the bill of materials.

The products that require power supply have electrical connectors, so every designer, who works in the electric engineering industry, can connect the elements to electrical systems, and if they have a parametrized family — read out necessary data as well.
